About The Author

Georgette Heyer was a British author who wrote 32 romance novels, 6 historical novels, 4 contemporary novels, and 12 detective fiction novels in the 20th century. She is best known for the creation of the Regency romance subgenre, which she based on the works of Jane Austen and her own extensive research on the Georgian and Regency periods of England. She also wrote historical novels set in different eras, such as The Conqueror (1931), which depicted the early years of William I.

Her writing career began in 1921, when she turned a story for her ailing younger brother into the novel The Black Moth. In 1925, she married George Ronald Rougier, a mining engineer, and they lived in various countries before settling in England in 1929. She was very private about her personal life and refused to grant interviews or publicity for her books. She died in 1974, leaving behind a legacy of popular and influential novels that are still in print today.
