McRaven is the author of this book. It is respectful, thought-provoking book which should be required reading for all adults, and maybe reread a couple of times at different stages in a person’s life. It gives purpose and direction. This book is an excellent short read, full of great life lessons for anyone. Although the examples are from military life, it is not a military book. McRaven uses his time in Naval Special Warfare to background these life lessons, but, doesn’t use his service as a SEAL as a self-promotion tool.

The Wisdom he conveys is an excellent reminder on how to pick yourself up off the ground. This is Wisdom to order your life around. In this small volume, the author recounts personal memories from his exemplary career as a Navy Seal and how the lessons of SEAL training comport with the wisdom he seeks to convey. He does so in a straight forward way void of equivocation. This delightful little book gives an insight into why they are such extraordinary men. In short, this is not your typical airy-fairy self-improvement book. It’s a primer from a real hero, an extraordinarily accomplished man on how to live an extraordinary life.
